Family Law has been anything but ordinary.
A junior paralegal in the Wilmington office, Brett recently returned to his home state after
spending several years living and working throughout Wyoming and Texas. Along the way, he
traded traditional office settings for wide-open spaces, even spending time working on dude
ranches before ultimately finding his way back to North Carolina. After relocating to Wilmington
in October, he joined Cape Fear Family Law in early March.
Brett graduated from the University of Wyoming with a degree in Criminal Justice and minors in
Sociology and Outdoor Leadership, combining a passion for understanding people with a strong
foundation in law and leadership. Before joining the firm, he worked as a deputy clerk in
Jackson, Wyoming, where he helped manage a broad range of legal matters, including family,
criminal, juvenile, and civil cases. Working behind the scenes in the court system gave him a
unique perspective on how the legal process unfolds and reinforced his commitment to building
a career in the legal profession.
Today, Brett supports the attorneys at Cape Fear Family Law through case management, court
filings, legal document drafting, and client communication. He thrives in the fast-paced
environment of family law and values the opportunity to help clients and children navigate
challenging chapters in their lives. Just as importantly, he appreciates being part of a team he
describes as welcoming, collaborative, and always ready to support one another.
Looking ahead, Brett plans to attend law school and continue advancing his legal career. While
he remains interested in exploring fields such as criminal and environmental law, family law has
proven especially meaningful because of the direct impact it has on families and children when
they need guidance most.
When he’s not at work, Brett rarely sits still. You’ll likely find him hiking a trail, camping under the
stars, horseback riding, spending time at the gun range, or tackling his latest hands-on project.
Whether he’s rebuilding part of his car, assembling a custom computer, or learning a new skill
outdoors, he enjoys staying active and challenging himself. He’s also happy to be closer to
family again, with his parents in Charlotte, his sister in Boston, and his brother currently studying
abroad.
With a background that spans courtrooms, ranches, and the Rocky Mountains, Brett brings a
unique perspective, strong work ethic, and genuine passion for helping others to the Cape Fear
Family Law team.
