The county seat is Louisburg, a small town of about three thousand five hundred residents with a historic downtown and Louisburg College. The largest town is Youngsville, with around two thousand people, sitting on the southern edge near Wake County. Franklinton has about twenty-five hundred residents, while Bunn is smaller at around seven hundred.

Other communities include Centerville, Lake Royale, and several unincorporated areas like Pilot and Stallings Crossroads. The county’s total population is approximately seventy thousand, and it’s been growing steadily thanks to its proximity to the Triangle. It still keeps a strong rural feel across much of the county, with tobacco farms, forests, and open land surrounding the small towns.
