Spotlight on Darlene Garcia
Darlene was raised in North Carolina and takes pride in being a 1st generation Cuban-Mexican. She’s a child of divorce and says that experience fed her interest in family law.
She has worked at multiple law firms, which gave her a strong foundation for the kind of work she’ll be doing at Cape Fear Family Law. She credits her internship with giving her initial insight into the nuts and bolts of what a family-centric law firm is all about. Before accepting her current position, she spent a year at the Gailor Family Law Litigation Clinic.
One of Darlene’s goals is to become a board-certified specialist in family law, like her mentors in the firm. She volunteered at a domestic violence nonprofit in the past, which sparked her passion for helping individuals whose lives have been affected by it.
She’s Civic-Minded
When asked about what drew her to the legal profession, Darlene is quick to mention her civic-mindedness and desire to give back to her community. She says she always enjoyed volunteering and views her career choices as a natural extension of that. She believes that as a family law attorney, she’ll be able to positively impact the lives of her community members.
She graduated with honors from East Carolina University, where she double majored in sociology and psychology. After a gap year, she attended Campbell School of Law and is excited to be a newly minted lawyer.
She Stays Busy in Her Free Time
Darlene is also a devoted mom to Brody, her lovable Golden Retriever.
She enjoys skiing and is enthusiastic about it. As soon as there’s fresh powder every season, expect to find her on the slopes.
In her free time, when she’s not exploring with Brody or skiing, she’s a staple at her local movie theater. She’s not particularly attracted to any one genre of film but instead enjoys the communal experience of movie watching.
She says her dream vacation would be skiing in the Swiss Alps. On her ideal day off, she usually takes Brody on a long walk and will hit up a Pilates class.
Some words that describe her are patient, understanding, and compassionate. She feels she’ll do well in the legal field because she’s an active listener.
She takes pride in being a go-getter. Even if she’s scared of something, she’ll still push herself to do it.
