QUESTIONS PEOPLE ASK

Before you book

What does a consultation involve?
Usually about an hour. Your lawyer will walk through your situation:

  • What happened
  • What you want
  • What you’re afraid of
  • And give you a read on your options and rough costs.

They’ll also flag anything urgent, like temporary orders or restraining something before it gets worse.

Bring a timeline of key dates, any texts or emails that matter, and a list of questions.

Don’t expect legal advice you can act on yet; it’s more of a fit check and strategy sketch.

Where do we meet.
We meet at our Durham office located at:

3917 University Drive, Suite 250
Durham, NC 27707

During our office hours Monday – Friday 9 AM – 5 PM

Your lawyer may suggest other options and may be able to meet outside of office hours.

What county will me case be in?
Your case will be in the county where you live, not where things happened. For divorce, North Carolina requires at least one spouse to have lived in the state for six months, and you file in the county where that spouse resides.

For custody, it follows the child — typically the county where the child has lived for the past six months, under the Uniform Child Custody Jurisdiction and Enforcement Act.

So even if the marriage fell apart in another state, what matters is current residence.
